AFCON 2025: CAF Recovers Stolen Match Ball After Incident in Algeria vs Equatorial Guinea Game
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has recovered a match ball that went missing during the AFCON 2025 clash between Algeria and Equatorial Guinea at Morocco’s Moulay Hassan Stadium.
After Algeria’s 3–1 victory, tournament officials discovered that two of the 15 match balls assigned for the game were missing, raising immediate concerns over equipment handling. Security camera footage later showed a member of the Algerian technical crew taking one of the balls during halftime.
Although the staff reportedly initially denied any involvement. However, video evidence confirmed the incident, leading to the return of one ball. The second missing ball has yet to be recovered, and CAF continues to assess the situation.
The incident has drawn widespread criticism toward the Algerian national team’s technical staff for unprofessional conduct.
