“A draw isn’t enough,” says Sébastien Desabre after the clash against Portugal
The manager of the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s Leopards has his sights set high for the 2026 World Cup.
The DR Congo held their own against Portugal in their World Cup opener, securing a 1-1 draw. It was a performance that pleased Sébastien Desabre, manager of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. However, the French tactician refuses to be satisfied with this result and is keeping his sights firmly fixed on the main objective, which is to qualify for the next round.
“It’s a good start to the tournament, but we need to build on it. We’re happy to have secured a draw. Our aim is to get through the group stage; a draw isn’t enough. If we win one of our other matches, we’ll qualify, but it’s a tough group.”
Following this valuable draw against Portugal on Wednesday 17 June, the DR Congo will next face Colombia on 24 June before concluding the group stage against Uzbekistan on 28 June.
