2027 AFCON Qualifiers: Yann Gboho and Bazoumana Touré secure victory for Ivory Coast against Somalia

The Elephants had to wait until the end of the match to see off Somalia on Tuesday 29 September in Abidjan.

Ivory Coast won 2-0 at the Félix-Houphouët-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan, on matchday two of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Held at bay by the Somalis for much of the match, Hervé Renard’s side struggled to break the deadlock.

It was not until the dying minutes that the deadlock was broken. Just as the match seemed to be heading for a draw, Yann Gboho finally broke the deadlock for the Elephants in the 89th minute. The Ivorian striker found the back of the net to give Ivory Coast a 1-0 lead.

The Elephants did not let up, however. In stoppage time, Bazoumana Touré doubled the lead and sealed the victory for Ivory Coast. With this 2–0 win, Ivory Coast have now recorded their second victory in as many matches in this 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
