2027 AFCON Qualifiers: Jordan Ayew Reportedly Withdraws From Ghana Squad With Injury

Ghana captain Jordan Ayew has reportedly withdrawn from the Black Stars squad ahead of their opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying matches against Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia.

Ayew arrived in Accra on Monday but complained of discomfort, prompting the Ghana medical team to conduct a scan on Tuesday morning. The examination reportedly confirmed an injury that will rule the captain out of the upcoming fixtures.

The Sheffield United forward is now expected to leave the Black Stars camp as Ghana prepare for their first two AFCON qualifying games.

Ayew’s reported withdrawal comes just hours after Ghana suffered another setback, with Antoine Semenyo also set to miss the international fixtures due to an ankle injury.

The Black Stars will face Côte d’Ivoire in their opening qualifier before taking on The Gambia as they begin their campaign to secure a place at the 2027 AFCON tournament.
