Defeated by Al Ahly (0–2) on Sunday 11 October at the Cairo International Stadium, on matchday 6 of the Egyptian Premier League, Zamalek is contesting the referee’s decisions during the match.

The club has officially lodged a complaint with the Egyptian Football Association to denounce what it considers to be several errors that disadvantaged its team. In a letter addressed to the governing body of Egyptian football, Zamalek questions the standard of the referee appointed for this derby.

The club believes that the referee was inexperienced and that his performance was not up to the standard required for a match of this importance. It also criticises him for several controversial decisions taken against its team.

Having consulted several refereeing experts, Zamalek’s management believes that its team should have been awarded two penalties during the match. The club also deplores the failure of VAR to intervene and review several situations deemed crucial.

In light of these grievances, Zamalek holds the referees’ committee responsible for what it considers to be a defeat marred by questionable decisions.
