Zamalek clinched a vital 1-0 victory over Al Masry in the third round of Group D in the CAF Confederation Cup at Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria on Sunday.
Ahmed Mostafa “Zizo” scored the decisive goal in the 63rd minute, leading Zamalek to their first win over Al Masry in six encounters. The match was overseen by interim coach Ahmed Magdy, with returning Swiss manager Christian Gross watching from the stands.
The victory places Zamalek at the top of the group with seven points, while Al Masry, coached by Ali Maher, dropped to third with four points.
The game started energetically, with Zamalek pressing through Mahmoud “El Wensh” Hamdy and Nabil “Dunga.” Al Masry’s goalkeeper Mahmoud Gad made key saves, including a close-range effort from Zizo and a strike from Mostafa Shalaby.
Zizo broke the deadlock in the second half with a powerful shot. Despite late pressure from Al Masry, including a dangerous free kick and a header cleared by Zamalek’s defense, the White Knights held on for the win.
Zamalek's standing in the group is strengthened by this outcome, increasing their prospects of moving on in the competition.
