Youssef Belammari and Jamal Harkass: Moroccan Stars Attract European Interest
Moroccan left-back Raja Casablanca's star player, Youssef Belammari, is becoming more well-known throughout Europe. Belammari has received offers from Viborg in Denmark and Celta Vigo in Spain since coach Walid Regragui called him back to the national squad. Although Viborg has apparently made a bid of $500,000, Raja Casablanca has placed his release clause at $1 million.
The circumstances surrounding Belammari are indicative of a larger pattern in Moroccan football. His colleague Jamal Harkass is also being connected to a possible transfer to Hannover, which is in the second tier of Germany. These changes demonstrate the growing need for Moroccan skills elsewhere.
At the same time, coach Walid Regragui is carefully looking for players with dual nationality across Europe. His goal is to make the Atlas Lions stronger before the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which Morocco will host. Some of the young players he is interested in include Ayoub Bouadi (Lille), Chamseddine Talbi (Club Bruges), and Hamza Uqman (Glasgow Rangers).
Regragui’s plan is to work quietly to protect these players from outside pressure and to focus on creating a strong and balanced team. With Morocco hosting the important CAN 2025, fans are excited to see how these behind-the-scenes efforts will pay off.
