Arsenal entered their Premier League match against Brighton in round 20 riding a three-game winning streak and firmly in contention for the title alongside Liverpool. However, to solidify their status as genuine contenders, the Gunners needed nothing less than a victory.

Mikel Arteta’s side took the lead and held onto it until the 61st minute when referee Anthony Taylor made a pivotal decision. Taylor awarded Brighton a penalty following a head-to-head collision between William Saliba and João Pedro.

Social media erupted with posts debating the fairness of the call.

“In what world is that a penalty against Saliba?” one fan questioned.

“Anthony Taylor’s performance today reached a whole new level of awful. From missing Gabriel’s foul to booking Nwaneri for time-wasting and then awarding a penalty for Saliba making contact with the ball,” wrote another frustrated supporter.

“I’ve never seen a penalty given for a head clash,” another fan remarked.

“That is the worst penalty decision I’ve ever seen in my entire life,” wrote another user.

“You won’t see another penalty like this in the next ten years,” complained a disheartened Arsenal fan.

Arsenal now trail Liverpool by five points. Moreover, the Merseyside club still has two games in hand, facing Manchester United and Everton.
