World champion crowned again! Luis de la Fuente named best coach of the 2025/26 season
Another triumph for the mastermind behind Spain's golden era! Luis de la Fuente has reportedly been named the best coach of the 2025/26 season by Spanish newspaper MARCA, adding another major recognition to his extraordinary year.
Details: According to CentreGoals, citing MARCA, De la Fuente has taken first place among coaches in the newspaper's Los 100 de MARCA ranking for the 2025/26 season. The recognition follows Spain's historic World Cup triumph in July, when La Roja defeated Argentina 1-0 after extra time in the final. The 65-year-old tactician has now guided his country to major international success while establishing himself among football's most respected managers.
De la Fuente's remarkable journey began long before the World Cup. He previously led Spain to the UEFA Nations League title in 2023 and European Championship glory in 2024. In 2026, he completed an outstanding international collection by winning the World Cup.
His achievement is particularly impressive because he spent years developing players within Spain's youth national teams. Stars such as Rodri, Dani Olmo and Mikel Merino worked under him before becoming established senior internationals. That continuity has helped create one of the most successful generations in Spanish football.
The recognition also arrives at an important moment for the coach. Spain's football federation has extended its commitment to De la Fuente, trusting him to lead the world champions through another international cycle. His latest accolade further underlines the remarkable transformation of his coaching career.
It's worth noting that De la Fuente took charge of Spain's senior team in December 2022. Less than four years later, he had won the Nations League, European Championship and World Cup. The MARCA recognition was reported on October 22.
Reminder: The phenomenon of de la Fuente: the coach who built Spain for 13 years.
