Will the competition take place? Triathlon training session canceled again at the Olympics
The Olympic Games continue to face challenges with one of the sports: triathlon. As this sport includes swimming in an open water body, it was scheduled to take place in the Seine, but it has had to be repeatedly rescheduled. Earlier, a training session before the start of the men's and women's competitions was canceled due to deteriorating water quality in the river. Although the competitions were eventually held, athletes complained about the poor water quality.
However, the mixed relay could not be conducted. It was rescheduled, but the training session preceding it was also canceled. Once again, the reason was the decline in water quality in the Seine, which, as before, was caused by heavy rainfall.
"Given the heavy rain on July 31 and August 1, which was particularly intense upstream of Paris, we are still seeing its impact on the water quality at the competition site.
We expect conditions to improve in the coming hours, but not to a level that would allow the scheduled training session to take place. Therefore, we have decided to cancel the training swim," stated the organizers of the Paris Olympics.
As of now, there is no information about another postponement of the mixed relay. It is still scheduled for tomorrow, August 5, at 7:00 a.m. Central European Time, but it remains uncertain if it will take place.
Let us recall that gold in the men's triathlon was won by Alex Yee of Great Britain, while the women's gold went to French athlete Cassandra Beaugrand.
