Mohamed Salah's recent statement that it seems more likely he will leave Liverpool than stay has surprised the club's supporters. After Liverpool's 3-2 victory against Southampton on Sunday, Salah mentioned that the club has not yet offered him a new contract, even though his current one is about to expire this season.

“We are about to enter December, and I have not received any offer to stay at Liverpool. So, I may be leaving the club more than staying," Salah told The Athletic. He further added, “I’ve been here for many years, and there’s no club like Liverpool, but in the end, it’s not up to me. As I said before, we are in December, and I haven’t heard anything yet about my future.”

Reports from TalkSport on Monday indicate that Liverpool has already been in discussions with Salah’s agent, Rami Abbas, and while the talks have been positive, the situation remains complicated. Salah’s high salary and advancing age (32) are seen as obstacles to any potential renewal.

The Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal is reportedly keen on signing Salah before the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, which will take place in the United States next summer. However, no official offer has been made yet. Despite interest from Al Hilal and a previous bid from Al Ittihad worth £150 million in September 2023, Liverpool rejected all offers to part with their star player.
