Jesus emphasized Ronaldo's special status, describing the legendary forward as a symbol of Portuguese football. The coach explained that, barring any unexpected developments, Cristiano will be included in the starting eleven against Wales.
However, the Portuguese manager did not guarantee that Ronaldo would remain on the pitch for the entire match. According to Jesus, the course of the game will determine how many minutes the captain plays. The coach also joked that if Cristiano scores one or two goals, he could substitute him immediately.
The encounter will mark Jorge Jesus' debut as Portugal's head coach. The match is scheduled for September 24 at the Estádio José Alvalade in Lisbon, where Portugal will begin their UEFA Nations League title defence.
It's worth noting that Portugal and Wales last met in a major tournament at Euro 2016. The Portuguese side secured a 2-0 victory in the semifinals, with Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani scoring the goals. Portugal went on to win the tournament.
