Speaking at a press conference ahead of Portugal's UEFA Nations League opener against Wales, the legendary forward revealed that he had seriously considered ending his international career after the World Cup but ultimately decided against it.
“I thought about retiring from international football after the World Cup. But I spoke to the president, coach and I am still here. I am an asset, I can help,” Ronaldo explained.
According to Cristiano, he still believes he can help Portugal achieve their objectives. The striker emphasized that his contribution is not limited to scoring goals: he also wants to support the younger generation and help the team win matches.
Ronaldo made it clear that he would end his international career when he felt he could no longer contribute to the national team. For now, he remains part of Jorge Jesus' plans and is preparing for the new UEFA Nations League campaign.
It is worth noting that Ronaldo holds the men's international football records for both appearances and goals, having scored 146 times in 233 matches for Portugal. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner helped his country win Euro 2016 and two UEFA Nations League titles, in 2019 and 2025.
