The Angolans knocked out the defending champions, Mamelodi Sundowns, on Friday 23 October in the second preliminary round, thereby securing their first-ever qualification for the competition’s group stage.

Travelling to Pretoria for the second leg of the second preliminary round following a 0–0 draw in the first leg in Angola, Wiliete SC held their own against the South African giants, securing a 1–1 draw. This valuable result allows them to continue their continental campaign thanks to the away goals rule.

This qualification marks a historic milestone for Wiliete SC. Founded in 2018 and turning professional in 2019, the Angolan club has reached the group stage of the CAF Champions League for the first time in its history.

By knocking out Mamelodi Sundowns, the reigning champions and regulars in continental competition, Wiliete SC have made a huge impact on the African stage. The Angolan club can now prepare to take part in the group stage, with the aim of extending this historic run.

The Angolan club is now waiting to find out who their opponent will be for the next round of the competition.
