Forward Lionel Messi of Inter Miami will miss seven matches in the American football league (MLS) in 2024.

The reason being his planned participation in the Copa America with the Argentine national team, scheduled from June 20th to July 14th next summer. As the MLS calendar doesn't align with FIFA, matches in the American league will take place during the Copa America period.

During the Copa America, Inter Miami is set to play against Philadelphia, Columbus Crew, Nashville, Charlotte, and Cincinnati, during which Messi won't be available to aid his current team. Additionally, Messi will miss two games during the FIFA international window in the spring against DC United and New York Red Bull.

The eight-time Ballon d'Or winner joined Inter Miami in the summer of 2023. The 36-year-old Argentine has participated in 14 matches across all competitions, scoring 11 goals, and providing five assists for his teammates.

In the new year, Messi will reunite in Miami with his former Barcelona teammate, Luis Suárez, who signed a contract with the club in December.

Let us remind you, that the new season in MLS will start on February 21, 2024.
