Yesterday, a historic event took place at the Paris Olympics as breaking made its debut at the Games.

This sport was the only new addition to the program of the 2024 Olympics. Fans who watched the competition were both captivated and puzzled as athletes took to the stage at Urban Park in Paris, spinning and flipping to music. They attempted to perform incredible tricks and defy gravity, all set to a rhythmic beat.

However, those who have followed this sport for a long time or have just become interested may be disappointed to learn that breaking will not be part of the next Olympic Games. This decision was made even before the Paris Olympics began.

Despite the fact that breaking originated in the United States and the next Summer Olympics will be held in Los Angeles, it was decided not to include the sport in the program. Instead, in 2028, fans will see sports like cricket, flag football, lacrosse, squash, and baseball-softball.

The Los Angeles 2028 Organizing Committee confirmed this decision, choosing new sports that reflect the interests of American society.

Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee, commented on this decision, as reported by Daily Mail:

"The selection of these five new sports aligns with American sporting culture and will showcase iconic American sports to the world, while also bringing international sports to the United States.

These sports will make the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games unique.

Their inclusion will enable the Olympic Movement to engage with new communities of athletes and fans in the U.S. and globally."

The World DanceSport Federation also commented on the decision, expressing disappointment but also pride in their achievements:

"While we are deeply disappointed by the decision of the Los Angeles 2028 Organizing Committee, we are proud of all that has been accomplished with the breaking community in an incredibly short period of time."

It is worth noting that the first breaking competition for B-Girls was won by Japan’s Ami. Today, the second competition will take place, featuring B-Boys.
