Watching Messi play in the English Premier League would have been a spectacle to behold.

Details: In a recent podcast, 40-year-old legendary former England and Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney admitted he believes Sir Alex Ferguson was seriously mistaken when he once claimed Messi couldn't have played in England.

According to Rooney, the current level of Lamine Yamal's performances against English clubs casts serious doubt on the legendary Manchester United manager's words:

"Watching Lamine Yamal play against Premier League clubs makes me think Sir Alex Ferguson was wrong when he said Messi wouldn't be able to perform on a cold, rainy night in Stoke-on-Trent. I think we were lucky Messi never came to the Premier League—he would have turned the league into a farmer's league," Rooney said.

Wayne Rooney announced his retirement in 2021 after his contract with Derby County expired. Over the course of his career, he played 764 club matches, scoring 313 goals and providing 168 assists. Rooney also earned 120 caps for England, netting 53 goals for the national team.
