"We need players like this" - Van Dijk on Salah and Wirtz
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk shared his thoughts on Mohamed Salah's role in the team and assessed the potential of newcomer Florian Wirtz.
Details: After the 14th round Premier League draw against Sunderland, Van Dijk commented on the situation with key players Salah and Wirtz.
Despite Salah only coming on in the second half, Van Dijk emphasized that his trust in the Egyptian remains unwavering:
“Salah is still a fantastic player. We have to remember why he's been so successful at the club and respect that. I need him by my side as one of the leaders. I'm not worried,” the captain stated.
The Dutchman also praised Florian Wirtz's performance and potential, noting that the newcomer essentially saved the team from defeat:
“There's a very good reason why a club like ours signed him. Wirtz is outstanding, a world-class player,” Van Dijk noted.
He also stressed that the young midfielder needs to keep his composure and not let emotions take over:
"He can become even better, but he needs time. He has to keep a cool head: not too high, but not too low either."
Reminder: Liverpool winger Florian Wirtz commented on the episode with his goal, which the Premier League reclassified as a Sunderland defender's own goal. The German said it doesn't matter to him.
