Barcelona continues their search for future stars far beyond the borders of Europe.

Details: Barcelona has officially announced the signing of 18-year-old Ecuadorian Josué Caicedo from LDU Quito. The player joins Barça Atlètic on loan until the 2026/27 season, with an option for a permanent transfer, and will play under the guidance of Juliano Belletti.

According to AS, the buyout clause is set at €2.5 million and will become mandatory if Caicedo makes four official appearances for Barcelona's first team. Initially, the Ecuadorian will continue his development with the Catalan club's reserve squad.

Caicedo is capable of covering several positions down the left flank. He started out as a winger but has gradually been deployed deeper, now often playing as a left-back. Barcelona has specifically highlighted his pace, ability to change tempo on a dime, and his willingness to join the attack.

As for his stats, according to FotMob, Caicedo played 314 minutes in the 2026 Ecuadorian championship, without scoring or providing an assist. The database also lists eight appearances for LDU Quito's senior team and zero goals. Transfermarkt values the 18-year-old at €300,000.

Caicedo is a product of LDU Quito's academy and only made his first steps in senior football in 2026. On February 20, he made the starting lineup for an Ecuadorian league match, and later got his chance to feature in the Copa Libertadores. His versatility and performances at the U20 Copa Libertadores caught the eye of Barcelona scouts, prompting the Catalans to bring the young Ecuadorian to Europe.

Reminder: Young Barcelona player could move to the Premier League!
