Was the referee right? Bellingham scores against Malaga after controversial incident
Real Madrid took the lead in their La Liga third-round clash with Malaga following a controversial incident involving Jude Bellingham. The England midfielder scored a superb solo goal in the 19th minute, but questions were raised over a possible foul in the build-up.
Bellingham embarked on an individual run before making contact with a Malaga player. The opponent went down, but the referee did not deem it a foul and allowed the attack to continue. After the incident, the official consulted VAR to review the moment.
Following the video review, the decision on the pitch was upheld. The officials concluded that the contact did not constitute a foul and, in their assessment, the Malaga player had exaggerated the minimal contact.
Real Madrid therefore took a 1-0 lead, with Bellingham once again at the centre of attention. The England international continues to produce impressive numbers, with 12 goal involvements in his last 11 matches.
