Hollywood studio Warner Bros Entertainment Inc. has initiated legal proceedings against Fenerbahce midfielder Kerem Akturkoglu, accusing him of unauthorized use of elements from the popular Harry Potter franchise.
Details: According to Warner Bros, the footballer featured the Hedwig’s Theme soundtrack in his videos, along with visual and symbolic references to Harry Potter—including mentions of the Harry Potter, Hogwarts, and Gryffindor brands. These trademarks are registered in Turkey, and the studio claims their use without permission violates both copyright and trademark regulations.
The reason for the player’s references to the Potter universe lies in his image, which fans have dubbed “Kerem Potter” due to his spectacular goal celebrations. After scoring, Akturkoglu often mimics the motion of casting a spell with a wand, which has become his signature move and caught the attention of supporters.
Warner Bros is demanding a technical review of the posts to determine whether the player’s videos indeed feature protected elements of the franchise. If violations are confirmed, the midfielder could face fines and be required to remove the content.
Reminder: Fenerbahce have set their sights on Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski.
