Walid Regragui Eyes Omar Hilali for Morocco After Defender’s Impressive Espanyol Performances
Moroccan defender Omar Hilali (23 years old) has caught the attention of Morocco’s national team coach, Walid Regragui, following his impressive displays with Espanyol in La Liga.
With his ability to neutralize Vinícius Jr. and Kylian Mbappé, the offensive pair, Hilali was important in his team's triumph over Real Madrid. He was named to La Liga's Team of the Week for his performance.
Hilali shined out despite Espanyol's recent 1-2 loss to Real Sociedad, winning nine of eleven duels and earning the highest rating among his colleagues.
According to Al Mountakhab, Regragui watched the match closely and was highly impressed by Hilali’s performance. The coach is now seriously considering him for the Moroccan national team.
However, with Noussair Mazraoui and Achraf Hakimi already occupying the right-back position, Regragui plans to use Hilali as a central defender, especially with Romain Saïss declining and Chadi Riad unavailable.
