WAFCON 2026: Harambee Starlets Coach Appeals to President Ruto Over Unpaid Player Allowances
Harambee Starlets head coach Beldine Odemba has revealed that her players are still waiting to receive allowances from two recent international friendly matches as Kenya prepares for the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
With the tournament fast approaching, Odemba reportedly made a heartfelt appeal to President William Ruto, urging the government to clear the outstanding payments and offer additional support to the national team before they depart for Morocco.
The coach admitted that while the players remain committed to representing Kenya, settling the unpaid allowances would provide a significant morale boost ahead of Africa's biggest women's football competition.
“We are heading to the biggest tournament in Africa, but the girls have yet to receive their allowances for the past two matches. They need something to motivate them,” said Odemba.
“The girls have asked that the president see them off. That would mean support and also hoping that he will extend financial support,” she added.
Kenya have been drawn in Group A alongside hosts Morocco, Senegal, and Algeria and will be aiming to make a strong impression when the tournament gets underway later this month.
