Vusumuzi Vilakazi's make or break match this evening against Kaizer Chiefs will determine if the mission to save Chippa United lies with him or not
Vusumuzi Vilakazi’s make or break match is tonight when his Chippa United side hosts Kaizer Chiefs.
Vilakazi has been vocal about how Chippa will not be relegated to the National First Division despite lacklustre displays in the Betway Premiership.
On Saturday, the Chilli Boys drew 0-0 against Siwelele FC in Bloemfontein, having lost to Orlando Pirates, a week ago today.
Moving away from the root of the standings is something Vilakazi has been adamant it is possible though as fixtures come in thick and fast, it looks an impossible of a task.
Since taking over from Luc Eymael, Vilakazi is yet to win a game for the Eastern Cape-based side and what makes this evening a difficult one to see as a win is the fact the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium will be filled with the black and gold supporters of Amakhosi.
What could work on Chippa’s favour though is that Chiefs have a knack of failing to deliver when it matters most.
Expectations at a club like Chiefs are always high and now they are higher because they are not far off from the PSL’s pacesetters.
But the once giants of SA football, Chiefs are no longer as ruthless as they were in yesteryear.
As much as Chippa want to add to their eight points collection so far, Chiefs also want to keep pace with the table toppers in Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns who have went past their 22 points collected.
After this evening 7.30pm kickoff match, Vilakazi will know if the mission of saving Chippa still lie in his coaching abilities or not.
