Vinicius—or not Vinicius? Fans demand DNA test from Real Madrid

An extraordinary story surrounding Vinicius Junior has erupted—one that sounds more like the plot of a science-fiction film. Rumors have begun circulating on social media claiming that the Brazilian footballer allegedly disappeared after the 2026 World Cup, and that Real Madrid and Brazil's current player is actually his double. Supporters of the theory even claim that the club could conduct a DNA test to confirm the footballer's identity.

As “evidence,” the authors of the conspiracy posts compare old and new photos of Vinicius, supposedly finding differences in his facial features and tattoos. However, there is no credible evidence whatsoever to support the theory.

What is more, the alleged connection to Spanish outlet AS also turned out to be dubious: the publication did not report any plans by Real Madrid to carry out a DNA test on the player. Vinicius himself continues to represent both Brazil and the Madrid club.

His underwhelming form may have sparked the latest wave of discussion. According to AS, the Brazilian has scored just one goal in his first eight matches of the season. Vinicius admitted that he needs to regain his confidence, while Carlo Ancelotti noted that the footballer is still far from his best condition. José Mourinho, meanwhile, continues to count on the star and has no intention of giving up on him.
