On the past weekend, Athletic Bilbao defeated Mallorca in a penalty shootout in the final of the 2023/24 Copa del Rey season.
This trophy marks the first one for the Bilbao club in 40 years, and they celebrated this achievement incredibly.
Traditionally, Athletic organized a championship parade on the La Gabbara barge. This barge has been used for parades by the club in the past decade, and it had been waiting for a new trophy exactly for 40 years.
Approximately a million people came to witness this historic event, which is three times the population of Bilbao.
Spanish media reports that Barcelona's center-back Inigo Martinez, who spent a significant part of his career at Athletic, asked for a day off from his club to attend the parade.
On Sunday, April 14th, Athletic Bilbao will play their 31st La Liga match against Villarreal.
