Brazilian football has been rocked by an unprecedented decision from Flamengo’s management.
Details: According to geglobo, head coach Filipe Luís was dismissed right after a crushing 8-0 win over Madureira in the Carioca Championship semifinal.
Reports suggest this move came as a complete shock to the coach. The former Atlético and Chelsea player learned about his sacking at Maracanã Stadium, just moments after finishing his post-match press conference. The conversation with club director José Boto lasted no more than 30 seconds: Filipe was simply told he was no longer with the club. The coach didn’t even get a chance to say goodbye to his players, who had already left the stadium.
The club is now scrambling to find a replacement ahead of Sunday’s final against Fluminense. The leading candidate for the vacant post is Portuguese manager Leonardo Jardim, known for his stint at Monaco.
It’s worth noting that under Filipe Luís, Flamengo won the Brazilian championship and lifted the Copa Libertadores last season.
Reminder: Flamengo are ready to sign Al Hilal striker Darwin Núñez.
