Total misfortune! Kai Havertz suffers injury setback and is sidelined for several more weeks
Arsenal forward Kai Havertz, who was on the verge of returning after a minor knee surgery, has suffered another setback and will now be out of action until early or mid-January.
Details: According to the Daily Mail, the 26-year-old midfielder was very close to rejoining the squad but suffered a recurrence of his injury during recent training sessions. Havertz now hopes to be fit for matches by mid-January, but he has not yet resumed training. There is a chance he could make the squad for the January 8 clash against Liverpool, but more likely he'll feature in the FA Cup third-round match against Portsmouth three days later.
To recap, the German suffered a knee injury in the Premier League season opener against Manchester United on August 17, and underwent surgery the following week, which has already sidelined him for four months.
It's worth noting that Arsenal have been plagued by injuries this season: by mid-December, Kai Havertz, Gabriel Magalhães, Cristian Mosquera, Ben White, and Max Dowman were all unavailable.
However, the club has received some positive news this month: William Saliba and Gabriel Jesus have returned to action, along with Viktor Gyökeres and Noni Madueke.
Reminder: Ajax have signed former Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu.
