Ajax have announced the signing of defender Takehiro Tomiyasu.
Details: The 27-year-old Japanese international joins the Amsterdam club as a free agent, penning a contract until June 30, 2026.
Ajax sporting director Marijn Beuker highlighted Tomiyasu's experience and versatility:
"Takehiro has established himself as an outstanding defender with vast experience in top European leagues. He is an intelligent, two-footed player. We've thoroughly analyzed his performances, the medical staff assessed his post-injury condition, and once his work permit is finalized, he will immediately begin training with the squad," said Beuker.
It's worth noting that Tomiyasu has previously played in Europe for Belgian side Sint-Truiden, Italy's Bologna, and Arsenal in the Premier League. His last competitive appearance for the Gunners was on October 5, 2024, after which he was sidelined with a knee injury.
Reminder: The Carabao Cup quarter-final between Arsenal and Crystal Palace has been postponed.
