"They have no place in football" - Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior makes strong statement following racist incident with Vinicius
Head coach Liam Rosenior did not remain silent regarding the high-profile racism case involving Vinicius Junior and Gianluca Prestianni.
Details: At the pre-match press conference ahead of the Premier League matchday 27 clash against Burnley, Chelsea's head coach Liam Rosenior took an extremely firm stance, emphasizing that football must rid itself of people who allow themselves to make discriminatory remarks. In Rosenior's view, no achievements can ever justify expressions of hatred, whether on or off the pitch.
“If a player, coach or manager is found guilty of racism, they have no place in football,” Rosenior declared. He added that any form of racism in society, let alone in sport, is absolutely unacceptable.
Rosenior admitted that this topic is deeply personal for him.
“I myself have been a victim of racist abuse,” the coach shared, adding that he understands what Vinicius is going through.
Although the manager stressed that he could not comment on the details of UEFA's ongoing investigation, he noted:
“When you see a player in such a dejected state, as Vinicius was, there is usually a very serious reason behind it.”
It should be noted that the controversial incident occurred during the Champions League playoff match between Benfica and Real Madrid.
Reminder: Real Madrid submitted evidence to UEFA in the racism case during the Champions League match.
