The changes will take effect this season.

Details: According to renowned journalist Martin Ziegler, England's football authorities have decided to scrap the tradition of holding a minute of silence before matches unless the tragedy is directly related to football or the world of sports in general.

Previously, a minute of silence was observed for global catastrophes, even if they were unrelated to football—such as natural disasters, acts of terrorism, fires, or mass killings.

Earlier, English football authorities also stopped the practice of taking the knee in support of the BLM movement and displaying rainbow symbols in stadiums for LGBT+ solidarity.
