Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin emerged as one of the main heroes for the "Los Blancos" in the second leg of the Champions League quarterfinal against Manchester City.

The Ukrainian goalkeeper made several crucial saves during the match and notably stopped two penalties during the shootout.

According to DefensaCentral, after the victorious match, Real Madrid's president Florentino Perez personally spoke with the goalkeeper and insisted that he sign a new contract with the club.

Recall that Real Madrid's first-choice goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois tore his cruciate ligaments in August and suffered a meniscus tear during his recovery last month. As a result, the Belgian will miss the entire season and will be unable to play in the 2024 European Championship.

In Courtois's absence, Chelsea loanee Kepa Arrizabalaga initially became Real Madrid's main goalkeeper, but later Lunin won the competition. In 27 matches this season, the 25-year-old Ukrainian goalkeeper has kept 12 clean sheets and conceded 23 goals.
