In the first half, City kept the ball more and managed to create a good chance, but after Holland's shot, the ball hit the crossbar. Man City did not create any more chances in the first half.

After the break, the Citizens dominated the pitch. They began to approach the Real Madrid goal time and time again. The goal was already in sight. Kevin De Bruyne became the saviour for Man City. In the 76th minute, he fired a shot from a few metres into the goal. The score for the sum of the two matches was 4:4. The game moved smoothly to overtime.

In the extra time, both teams played much more carefully and did not want to take too many risks, as each goal could be decisive. None of the teams scored a goal and everyone was waiting for a penalty shootout.

In the 11-metre penalty shootout, Real Madrid players were more accurate. Goalkeeper Andriy Lunin became the hero, saving two penalties.
