The legend gave his comment. Djokovic spoke out about Sinner's doping scandal
This week, world number one Jannik Sinner became embroiled in a doping scandal. In March of this year, he twice tested positive for the banned anabolic steroid clostebol. However, the Italian managed to avoid disqualification after the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) conducted an investigation, determining that Sinner had unknowingly ingested the substance.
This revelation sparked outrage in the tennis world. Some players responded with anger, suggesting that tennis stars receive preferential treatment.
After a period of silence, the legendary former world number one Novak Djokovic decided to comment on the incident. He renewed his calls for changes in tennis, warning that such an approach could lead the sport into a dead end.
“There are many issues within the system. I can understand the feelings of many players who doubt they would be treated the same way,” Djokovic was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.
“I hope the governing bodies of our sport can learn from this case and develop a better approach in the future. I believe changes are necessary, and it’s clear that every player, regardless of their ranking, status, or profile, should be treated equally.”
Following the scandal, Sinner parted ways with the physiotherapist at the center of the controversy, just days before the start of the US Open.
Meanwhile, it remains uncertain whether world number three Carlos Alcaraz will participate in the fourth Grand Slam tournament of the year.
