The former president of the Spanish Football Federation was released from police custody
Former president of the Spanish Football Federation, Luis Rubiales, was released following his detention at the airport, as reported by Sport.es.
It is worth noting that the Spanish specialist was apprehended by the police upon arrival in Madrid. Rubiales is accused of money laundering, corruption in business, mismanagement, and membership in a criminal organization.
Additionally, the prosecution demanded a 2.5-year prison sentence for Rubiales for kissing without consent the footballer Jennifer Hermoso during the award ceremony after Spain's victory in the Women's World Cup. Rubiales himself denies all allegations and declares his readiness to cooperate with the investigation.
Recall that the Central Operations Unit of the Civil Guard conducted searches at the headquarters of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) in Las Rozas. Law enforcement authorities examined all documents related to the contract between RFEF and Saudi Arabia regarding the organization of the Spanish Super Cup.
