“The aim is to take all three points”: Patrick Vieira ahead of Ethiopia v Senegal

Following their 1–1 draw with Mozambique in Maputo on the opening day, the Lions of Teranga face Ethiopia this Tuesday, 29 September.

The Walia will host Senegal at 1 pm GMT at the Bahir Dar Stadium, with three particularly crucial points at stake in Group J of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. But the Lions of Teranga’s manager, Patrick Vieira, says he expects a tough match whilst setting out his team’s ambitions.

The French tactician emphasised the tactical, physical and mental aspects.

“We’re expecting a tough match. There are no easy matches at this level. It’s important for us to put in a good performance, create chances and score goals.

The aim is to take all three points. The team will be competitive. Tactically, physically and mentally, it’s been a long journey, but there’s no such thing as an easy journey.

From here on, it’s important for us to really focus on the essentials, the game itself, and on what we’re going to put in place to perform better than we did against Mozambique.”
