The absence of Mbekezeli Mbokazi in Orlando Pirates’ clash against Chippa United is a clear signal that the player is leaving the club
It does seem that Mbekezeli Mbokazi is leaving Orlando Pirates.
If his absence from Pirates' playing squad in tonight’s Betway Premiership match against Chippa United is anything to go, then Mbokazi is no longer a Pirates player.
The youngster was in USA reportedly to seal a deal with MLS side Chicago fire.
No official word as yet from the side has been released but that he is not part of the playing personnel at Orlando Stadium this evening is more than enough to suggest he is no longer part of the team.
Mbokazi’s possible deal to Chicago Fire is said to be in the region of R50-million and it’s a move which will surely increase both the player and the club’s financial standing.
This move is a deserved one for a player who has been impressive in his maiden PSL season as he handled seasoned players with ease with his tough-tackling approach to his matches.
It was not only his defending which made him noticeable as Mbokazi had developed a knack of scoring screamers for Pirates.
One notable one is the goal he netted for Abdeslam Ouaddou’s side when they faced Siwelele FC at Orlando Stadium in a Carling Cup match.
From outside the box, after just two touches, Mbokazi unleashed a screamer to the top corner to beat the goalkeeper hands down.
And it would seem his last game for Pirates was in the 1-0 win over Richards Bay in a Carling Knockout semi-final at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
While the official statement is yet to be released, his absence from the team would be the only way to confirm he is no longer a Buccaneer.
