Orlando Pirates beat Chippa United 2-0 to be equal on points with Mamelodi Sundowns in the Betway Premiership standings

Evidence Makgopa and Aswin Appollis delivered the goals for Orlando Pirates which ensured they are equal on points with table-toppers Mamelodi Sundowns.

This victory means that while with a game less than Sundowns, Pirates also have 25 points, something which has not happened in the history of the PSL for the past seven seasons as Sundowns would be run away champions having not been caught by any side in a season.

The Sea Robbers beat Chippa United convincingly last night under a decent crowd at Orlando Stadium.

Makgopa netted the first goal after connecting with a Deon Hotto low cross while Appollis scored a beauty from the edge of the box.

After receiving a short corner pass from Kabelo Dlamini, Appollis needed a slightest of deflections to curl his strike past Chippa goalkeeper to score.

Pirates’ intent and courage in their play has been evident as they continue to look like a side which can compete pound for pound against Sundowns’ domination.

Chippa came into this Betway Premiership encounter in Soweto a bruised side as they remain on the foot of the standings with just seven points.

This win gives Pirates an edge as they travel to Kwa-Zulu Natal this weekend for date against Durban City.
