Sunday Abe Backs Super Eagles to Claim First CHAN Title
Following their stunning qualifying victory against Ghana, former Nigeria international Sunday Abe believes the Super Eagles have a good chance of winning the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN). The squad won 3-1 in Uyo, confirming their participation in the competition after missing the previous two editions.
Abe, a legend of the Nigeria Premier Football League, praised the squad’s resilience, highlighting their victory as a satisfying revenge against Ghana, who had previously denied Nigeria World Cup and CHAN qualifications.
"Qualifying is a huge relief after years of setbacks. The win against Ghana is special, proving the quality within our league," Abe said.
He called on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to continue supporting the squad in order to assist them achieve a historic victory, stressing the value of motivation and preparation.
CHAN 2024 will feature teams composed of players from domestic leagues and will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda from February 1–28, 2025. Abe remains optimistic, stating, "With the right preparation, Nigeria can finally win this trophy."
