East African rivals Tanzania and Uganda shared a dramatic 1-1 draw at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Rabat, their first ever meeting at the finals, as heavy rain and missed chances shaped a chaotic contest.
The first half was full of energy but lacked clear chances, with both sides cancelling each other out. The game came alive just before the hour when Tanzania were awarded a penalty for handball and Simon Msuva smashed an unstoppable effort into the roof of the net.
The Taifa Stars protected their lead for much of the second half, but Uganda pushed forward and were rewarded in the 80th minute. Substitute Uche Ikpeazu rose bravely to meet Allan Okello’s cross, powering a diving header past the goalkeeper to level the score.
As the rain intensified, the match descended into frantic moments. Uganda were handed a golden chance to win late on when another foul led to a penalty, but Okello sent his effort high over the bar.
Both teams now sit on one point from two games, facing tough final group matches ahead Tuesday.
