Gamondi Looks Ahead to Uganda After Narrow AFCON Loss

Tanzania head coach Miguel Gamondi has reflected on his side’s 2-1 defeat to Nigeria in their AFCON 2025 opener, insisting his players learned valuable lessons. Two goals from Semi Ajayi, from Alex Iwobi’s cross, and Ademola Lookman’s strike sealed victory for the Super Eagles.

Speaking after the match, Gamondi admitted the quality gap between the teams proved decisive. “I think it was a big learning for us… the quality gap between one team and the other is very big,” he said. He praised his side’s discipline and commitment, noting they “played a great game.”

Despite the loss, the coach stayed upbeat. “I’m proud because I don’t like to park the bus… we could have got one point,” he added. Looking ahead to Uganda, Gamondi said confidence was “very big,” calling it “like a derby in East Africa.” He stressed a step-by-step approach: “the most important game is the next game.”
