Steve Barker sees Stellenbosch match versus Siwelele FC as an important match for both sides

Steve Barker has described his team’s Betway Premiership match against Siwelele FC tonight as an important one for both teams.

Barker says, like them, Siwelele have not had the best of start to their season and this should make this game an interesting one to witness.

“It’s an important game for both clubs, and I’m sure they’ve also done their preparations, so it’s important that we keep working hard on what we do,” he told his club website.

Stellies welcome the Mangaung-based side to the Athlone Stadium having lost their last two matches without scoring.

A week ago today they lost 4-0 to Marumo Gallants in a Carling Knockout match and also lost 2-0 to TS Galaxy in Mpumalanga.

Despite the above results, Barker said his players are motivated for this evening clash.

Stellenbosch are now second from bottom with nine points from 11 matches. Two points separate them from bottom side Chippa United.

“Siwelele are a newer name in South African football, but they have a lot of familiar faces in their squad,” said Barker.

“They’ve not had the easiest of starts to the season either, but they have settled in and are starting to get some good results of their own now.

“They have good individual players in their team, and it’s important for us not to underestimate them.“

The game starts at 7.30pm.
