Southgate has repeated the incredible achievement of two German coaches
Yesterday, the England national team defeated Netherlands 2-1, securing their place as the second finalist in the 2024 European Championship. The decisive goal was scored by Ollie Watkins in the first minute of stoppage time.
With this victory, England's head coach Gareth Southgate matched an incredible achievement of two German coaches. He became only the third manager in history to lead his team to the European Championship final twice in a row.
Previously, this feat was accomplished by Helmut Schön (West Germany, 1972 and 1976) and Berti Vogts (Germany, 1992 and 1996). Both won the final once, with Schön leading West Germany to the title in 1972 and Vogts winning Euro 1996 with Germany.
It is worth recalling that in the Euro 2020 final, England lost to Italy in a penalty shootout at Wembley.
The Euro 2024 final between Spain and England will take place in Berlin on Sunday, July 14.
