South Africa's football legend Benni McCarthy backs Bafana Bafana against Czechia and South Korea
Benni McCarthy has backed South Africa to rise to the occasion against Czechia and South Korea in their remaining World Cup Group A matches.
Hugo Broos' Bafana Bafana face Czechia tomorrow evening at Atlanta's Mercedes Benz Stadium in their second match having fallen 2-0 to host Mexico, a week ago today, in the tournament's opening match.
McCarthy, who is South Africa's all time leading scorer with 29 goals and now in charge of the Kenyan national team, said Bafana have the physical ability to compete at the World Cup level.
"Physically, we have presence. Every single defender in that team is a good unit. You need to match the physicality of European and South American teams. I think Mbokazi is probably the only defender that's a decent size, but he's got the heart of a lion," said McCathy on SportyTV, via Pulse Sports Kenya, as he also made special mention of defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi.
“Overall, I like the squad. I think they're solid. And physically, we can definitely out-muscle South Korea. And we can go pound-for-pound with the Czech Republic. I think we're good enough that we can cause major upsets in that group.”
Bafana face Czechia tomorrow evening and that match starts at 6pm South African time.
