Sekhukhune United intrim coach Paulus Masehe on Linda Mtambo absence: It has hurt the club a lot to have a player of his experience out with injury

Linda Mtambo is still in the Sekhukhune United hospital room.

The veteran midfielder has not been an active player for Babina Noko this season with an ankle injury preventing him from making a meaningful contribution to the team.

Infact, it was Mtambo who was vocal at the start of the campaign about Sekhukhune’s chances of winning this season’s Betway Premiership trophy.

He even went to liken his side to English’s Leicester City who once surprised the football world by winning the English Premiership trophy coming from a position of anonymity.

His season has been cut short by injury according to interim coach Paulus Masehe who took over the reins from sacked Eric Tinkler last week.

Babina Noko’s season has turned out for the worst as they are struggling to finish in the top four as they had envisaged when the campaign started.

“With only four matches to go, I think it’s impossible for him to come back into normal fitness and be able to compete. No, it’s not possible at all,” United interim coach Paulus Masehe told Journalists.

“Linda, to be honest, is injured. He had an ankle injury that took him out for a while. We are still looking at how far it’s going to take for him to get better and get back into the game.”

Masehe also admitted that the club missed their captain’s experience, especially at this stage of the season.

“Most definitely, Linda and his experience are irreplaceable. But we are expecting the ones that we have now to take over and make sure that they give us the results because it’s an opportunity given to them to give us positive results,” he said.

“But unfortunately, you will always miss that kind of experience at this time of the season.”
