Scotland giants Rangers interested in South Africa's MLS-based defender Olwethu Makhanya

Reports in Scotland links South African born defender Olwethu Makhanya to a move to giant club Rangers.

Makhanya, who plays for Philadelphia Union in the MLS, was part of Bafana Bafana's World Cup squad which finished in the last-32 round but he did not feature in any game.

Now the interest in him by European clubs has been well documented and it comes from his impressive showings for Philadelphia over the past two seasons he has been there.

He has played 53 games so far in the USA since joining from Stellenbosch FC.

According to Sky Sports, Makhanya could added to the Derek Mclnnes' team this summer.

The Ibrrox-based side face possibilities of losing centre back John Souttar to Leicester City and Makhanya is seen as a player to fill that void.
