Saviour. Emiliano Martinez's incredible statistics in the penalty shootout for Argentina

Last night, Argentina advanced to the semifinals of Copa América 2024, with Aston Villa's goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez once again emerging as the hero.

The experienced keeper won yet another penalty shootout, even after Lionel Messi struck the crossbar at the start. This marks the fifth penalty shootout in Martinez's career with the Argentina national team, and his statistics are simply astonishing:

• 24 total shots faced
• 12 goals conceded
• 9 penalties saved
• 2 opponents missed the target
• 1 opponent hit the crossbar

It is worth recalling that in the winter of 2022, Argentina defeated France in the World Cup final via a penalty shootout.

In the semifinals of Copa América 2024, Argentina will face the winner of the match between Venezuela and Canada.
