Salah's contract saga: Liverpool under pressure as renewal talks stall
Mohamed Salah has raised questions about his future with Liverpool by showing disappointment over the slow progress in extending his contract, which will end next summer. In an interview, Salah said: "It's almost December, and I haven't gotten an offer to renew my contract from Liverpool. I feel disappointed, but we’ll see."
James Pearce, a journalist for The Athletic, reported that discussions between Liverpool’s sporting director, Richard Hughes, and Salah’s agent, Ramy Abbas, have focused on setting expectations. He explained: "Negotiations often include verbal discussions of terms before leading to formal offers. However, Liverpool’s management declined to comment, avoiding escalation or turning the talks into a public dispute."
While Liverpool is keen to keep Salah, Pearce noted that financial logic is pivotal: “His status as the club's highest earner makes this a complex negotiation. Liverpool wants to keep him, but only in a way that will be financially viable.”
The Egyptian player is still very important for the team, having scored 10 goals in the Premier League this season, which is second only to Manchester City's Erling Haaland who has 12. Everyone, including fans and experts, is waiting to see what happens as Salah's future remains a big topic in the news.
