Aston Villa produced a shock in the eighth round of the English Premier League. On home soil in Birmingham, the team defeated Manchester City 2-1 to bring an impressive winning streak under Enzo Maresca to an end.

The star of the match was Jackson, who scored twice to earn the hosts all three points. Manchester City could only respond through Erling Haaland, whose goal was not enough to prevent defeat.

The victory saw Aston Villa write their name into the history of their rivalry with the “Citizens.” According to Opta, the Birmingham side became the first team since Liverpool in December 2016 to record three consecutive Premier League wins over Manchester City.

In addition, Aston Villa became the first team since Tottenham in February 2023 to win four consecutive home Premier League matches.

For Manchester City, the defeat was particularly painful: Maresca’s team saw their seven-match winning start to the season come to an end. The Citizens must now prove that the setback in Birmingham was merely a temporary slip-up.
