Manchester City preparing a blockbuster Chelsea transfer: Maresca has set his sights on a star for a record fee
Manchester City intend to make another attempt to sign Chelsea right-back Malo Gusto during the winter transfer window. According to TEAMtalk, the Manchester club remains highly interested in the 23-year-old Frenchman, but is counting on his asking price falling further.
Chelsea valued the player at £70 million in the summer. That figure proved to be an obstacle to the transfer, as it could have set a world record for the most expensive right-back. According to the source, the London club’s demands have now decreased, giving City reason to return to the negotiating table. At present, the most expensive transfer for a player in this position remains Achraf Hakimi’s move to Paris Saint-Germain for £57 million.
One factor that could make Gusto’s sale easier is the competition within Chelsea’s squad. In addition to the Frenchman, the club also have Reece James, Marco Palestra and Josh Acheampong.
However, a potential deal remains uncertain. The club’s transfer plans could depend on the consequences of the case involving alleged breaches of financial regulations.
